Tiers of Technology Integration Survey

Steering educators in the right direction: A professional development resource to help educators identify their strengths and weaknesses in educational technology and chart a course for improvement.

These step-by-step directions will guide you through the process of taking the Tiers survey and how to satisfy WSD requirements for your results.

  1. Since many of you have already taken previous surveys on the PILOT website you may already be able to login.  When we last took this survey the directions were to use your email login name and wsd as the password. If you don't remember your password the system will email you with a forgotten password.  

  2. Once on the site click the Login Link and see if you can recall what you used for a login the last time you took the survey, if you are unsuccessful simply create a new account following these directions or retrieve your forgotten password.

    •Go online to http://www.edtech.wednet.edu/pilot/index.cfm

    •If you are successful at logging to your account proceed to step 6.

    •If it does not work then you can retrieve a forgotten password from the login page.

    •If you need a new account proceed to Step 3.

  3. If you have never participated in a survey in the past Click on Create New Account.

  4. Fill out the required information: Please fill all of the information in, this will help us in identifying areas of need for our district, building, or job classification.

  5. When choosing a username and password, please use the following:

    Your email address.......................... EXAMPLE USERNAME: brown.r@mail.wsd.wednet.edu
    And the Password........... PLEASE USE THIS PASSWORD: wsd



  6. Click on Start Survey.


  7. When you click on Start Survey, you should come to a screen that shows all of the choices for surveys. Click on the Technology Integration Survey.

  8. When you are finished with the survey Please print the graph of your results and turn them into your building TRT.  The TRTs are instructed not to share this information with anyone except you.   The purpose is to determine areas of need for professional development for yourself, the building, and the district. 

    To print your results if you forget to do so after your survey, Click on "View Current Results"----->

  9. Here is an EXAMPLE of what your results should look like.

    This is your average for the survey.  We need the detailed report.  To get this click on the on the link that says "Tiers of Technology Integration Survey ."  Your results should look something like this:

  10. The following guidelines will help you interpret your results:

    Tier 1 - Teacher Productivity Station

    This tier focuses on the teacher using technology to get his/her job done more effectively and efficiently. Technology is used to support the learning experience, represented by activities such as the following:

    · Communicating with email
    · Finding instructional resources on the Internet
    · Maintaining and organizing student information and grades
    · Classroom website: Posting grades, classroom information, calendar, and information for parents

    Required conditions for Tier 1:

    · Computer network
    · Technical Support ensuring successful operation of computers and network
    · Administrative expectations for technology use for administrative purposes

    Tier 2 - Instructional Presentation and Student Productivity

    This tier involves teacher facilitation of large group learning activities and student productivity use of technology. Technology is used to enhance the learning experience, represented by activities such as the following:

    · Brainstorming and sharing ideas
    · Delivering visual presentations
    · Representing information visually
    · Conducting one-computer classroom lessons
    · Facilitating group discussions and lessons
    · Students writing papers, reports on computer or smart keyboard (Alphasmart, DANA, Neo, Palm)
    · Classroom web site: Posting educational sites and resources

    Required Conditions for Tier 2 include Tier 1, plus:

    · Good access to computers for student use
    · Technical Support for projector/document camera use
    · Administrative expectations for technology use for instructional purposes

    Tier 3 - Student-Centered Learning Classroom

    This tier promotes student learning and the use of technology through project based learning. Technology is used to transform the learning experience, represented by activities such as the following:

    · Inquiry-based, essential questions
    · Researching, analyzing data and problem-solving
    · Writing, developing and publishing products
    · Inventing products through programming
    · Creating and using WebQuests and Curriculum Pages
    · Authoring/reviewing work online
    · Classroom Website: Posting student work and projects

    Required Conditions for Tier 3 include Tier 2, plus:

    · School-based technology integration coach
    · Ubiquitous access to computers for student use
    · Opportunity for publishing and sharing online
    · Administrative expectations and support for technology use for project-based learning
