Directions for elementary report card database

  2. Save this file into your Documents folder. This way you will always know where it is for all three trimesters.

  3. Click on the Layout menu and select Layout. While in Layout mode change your specific information in the following areas(do this by double clicking in the corresponding area to replace the text):



  4. Switch to the Comments page by going to the Layout menu and selecting Comments from the very bottom of the menu, then edit the following areas by double clicking in the area you would like to change.



  5. Now that you have your report card ready and customized for you, you can gather your stuff up and start to input the student’s individual marks and comments.

  6. Click on the Layout Menu and change this back to Browse(this is where you modify records of the database.)

  7. Click on the Layout Menu again and change to the Report Card Layout(very bottom of menu.)

  8. Select New Record from the Edit menu or use the key command for this (Apple - R)

  9. Use your Tab key to move from field to field, the order of the fields is logical and starts with the student name, then next year assignment, then Trimester 1 tardies, Absent, etc. You can always click in any of the fields that you want to input where you would like. But the tab key is much quicker.
  10. You can move between records by using the little rolodex to the left of the main screen.


  11. When you want to print the report cards and comments do the following:

  12. Go to Page Setup under the File Menu and make sure you select your specific printer(they will look nicer and fit better on a laser printer)

  13. When you choose Print from the File Menu then you should click the Copies & Pages pop up menu and select Apple Works 6 from the list, your Print dialog box should look like this:



  14. This will allow you to print ALL RECORDS(Visible records) or just the one you are on(Current Record.)

  15. You will have to switch to the Comments Layout to print them.

  16. So wait until you are finished with all students (SAVING OFTEN), then print all records, then switch to the Comments layout and print all records, you will have to manually collate them, but you will love it next trimester when most of the work is done and you just have to put in the grades and comments(remember cut,copy and paste work for the comments!!!)
