Title: Cinderella Variants

Overview: I am always looking for creative ways to mess around with words. I love working with stories that are familiar to kids.


Student Level:
6th


Time Frame: 1 week for introduction of Cinderella and the 100's of variants of this story from around the world.

Objectives: The student's will:

  • Communicate what they have learned about variants of stories.
  • Utilize Hyperstudio software to create their stories.
  • Revise and edit writing.
  • Share and evaluate their stories.
Materials:

  • Computer connected to a projection device
  • Computer Lab
  • Hyperstudio

Procedures:

  1. Watch the streaming video of Mr. Johnson with his class on grading day, video includes an introduction to the lesson, his variant story, the grading rubric, and students grading students. 

    You will need to be withing the Wenatchee School District network and have Quicktime version 6.0 or higher to view this streaming video.  To download Quicktime click here.

  2. Read several of the original Cinderella stories and their variants from other coutries.
  3. You can find them online at several sites:
    1. Cinderella Stories by Continent
    2. Cinderella Stories
    3. Pathfinder to other Cinderella Variants
    4. Ashpet and other Cinderella Variants
  4. Compare and contrast the stories with the original version.
