Members Present: Ron Brown, Dan Myers, Tim Lynch, Charlie Hickenbottom, Kory Kalahar, Fred Lenard, Ray Birks, Todd
Busse, Aaron Gahringer, Shayne Wrzesinski,
Agenda:
1) Refresh: The following will be the process for fall.
- Through the technology levy dollars we will be refreshing approximately 120 certified teacher computers this August.
- We will be replacing all 700-867mHz computers.
- All replaced computers will be then put into use for your students within labs, mobile labs, or within classrooms around your building.
- We will be purchashing MacBook laptops for all of the refresh to create a mobile teaching station for your certified staff. Here is a link to what they will be getting: http://www.apple.com/macbook/macbook.html
- Ron will be sending you a list via email of the computers that will get the refresh.
- Ron will also put together a priority list of what will/should happen with the machines that will be replaced (some will move buildings)
- When a WHS laptop is gettting replaced we will be filling out the mobile labs that are already partially in place across the district.
- WHS has one with 10 that will be filled with 20 more (20 from WHS)
- Orchard has one with 11 that will be filled with 19 more (4 from OMS, 15 from WHS)
- Newbery has one with 7 that will be filled with 11 more (11 from WHS)
- If from the list of computers that need refreshing someone says I don't want a laptop, you will still get a laptop. At the building level you will have to find another home for the laptop AND then the willing teacher's eMac will go to replace the 700-800mHz machine.
- The goal for this round is to not have any machine on a teacher's desk that is less than 1 gHz processor.
2) PILOT
- Here we go.. get them the info so they can do the PILOT Light
survey again this year.
- You will have to show them how to do this again. If yoy
do the light version it only takes about 15 min.
- When they complete it they can print their results and give them
to you.
- Approach this with a positive attitude and point out to them
that they are doing this so they can identifiy areas of strength
and weakness so that they will be able to better identify what
they might need a WOD in or what they can have for their personal
technology goal for their CIPP (some buildings).
- Next year the state will be requiring us to have this data and submit it to them. They might be providing the tool for this, but it will line up with the Pilot in terms of how it is done.
- 8th Graders starting next year will also require some type of assesment of their skills that we will report to the state.
3) WOD's -
- Please let me know ASAP how many "TRT Days" you used this year in your building. Some people used less that what I alloted for this so let me know.
- WOD Data:
- Current data is online for these.
- We should be OK for WODs for the remainder of the year. Keep
em coming but still make sure protocol is followed and they fill
out the online form and get approval first.
- As we get closer to June I will let you know what kind of
budget we have left to be able to do any of them in the summer
(with prior approval before summer begins)
- Don't make promises without submitting a request and find out if funding is there.
4) Media Co-Op
- Our current proposal is to give the buildings a choice of Full co-op or partial. Partial would have to include streaming and database service. Full is this plus the video pony service. Any money saved would go directly back to the libraries.
- I will send a final proposal/budget when I hear from all the principals on this.
7) August Institute:
- Electronic Registrar Reminders
- Teach your staff how to do this again so they will be ready
to register for any August Institute class.
- Remind them to update their profile
- One of the courses in the system will be "Independent Plan."
- Shayne has a great suggestion for them remembering their login.
- TRT Training at August Institute
- Sign up for this training day if you don't have another class
you want to attend or if you need the clock hours. You can
get paid if it is your August Instittute day. I
will have clock hours available for all who attend. This is
optional but would be a good beginning for our new TRT's at WHS and
for a refresher on building setups, servers, resources, etc.
8) Fall plans: TRT Day in Aug, United Streaming, databases, intro to laptop, data collection tool, etc.

- Create Your own blog with a haggis/prodev user name and password.
- Then you will have to put in your short name (lastnamefirstinitial,
no dot)
- When you do this it will create the blog site for you and you
can setup your own settings and look and create your entries. They
you can link to the following address Example: http://prodev.wsd.wednet.edu/weblog/brownr
would be mine, yours would have the same except the name at the
end.
- Jabber chat server.....
this will enable Chat with school employees.. our goal would be to
use it for professional conversations, toubleshooting, collaboration,
file sharing, etc.
- This will only work for staff who have user names and passwords
on the prodev/haggis server.
- It will also only work if you have OS 10.4 or newer.
- Open iChat, go to preferences and then go to connections. Disable
the .Mac and AIM connections and add a new one.
- Use the following
configurations:

- TeachWeb - Make sure we
are putting this in front of the staff again so they will take advantage
of this opportunity. We have had two winners so far and will
have two more then a grand prize at the end of the year. All
it takes is for them to fill out the online form: http://prodev.wsd.wednet.edu/teachweb/teachweb.html
- iTeach Awards - Make sure we
are putting this in front of the staff again so they will take advantage
of this opportunity. Really talk this one up. Some of your
staff have done projects but they have not gone through the steps of
applying. The prizes are awesome and I think if you are at a
staff meeting and show them the prizes and the application then we
will have some people apply. Last year we had seven entries and I would
love to have more than that.
