Snail Pulls - What you might like to know!

How many washers did the snail pull?On average they pulled 21 washers (at 7grams each).

What was the mass of the snail? The class average was 9.5 grams.

Parents were astonished by how many washers the snail could pull.

We predicted the snails would pull much less than they pulled. We all predicted/estimated they would pull 1, 2, or 3 washers.

All the snails had to do was move the washers.

We created a special harness so the snail could pull the washers. It looked like a dog harness.

A couple of the snails did not cooperate.

Sometimes we had to put fruit (scientifically these are all fruit) such as broccoli, carrots, and apples in front of the snail. We also put chalk in front of them. Why do they need chalk? That continues to be our lingering question.

We noticed that they were stretching their foot/neck forward and then dragging their shell up behind them. Their trail of mucus let them slide over any surface, even a rough one.
